FAQs about the contraception check

How to use contraception without hormones?2020-09-16T09:33:57+00:00

Many women want to use hormone-free contraception. For this, copper is a material that has been used as a safe, hormone-free contraceptive for decades. It respects the natural female cycle and does not control or interfere with it like hormonal contraceptive methods do. At VenusMed we offer a wide range of intrauterine contraceptives (IUDs) with copper, such as the copper IUD, the frameless copper IUD and the intrauterine ball.

What is the best method of contraception?2020-09-16T09:33:05+00:00

There are a lot of contraceptives. But only you can find out for yourself which one suits you best. Ideally, you could do this with the help and advice of one of our experienced, specialised doctors.

As part of a contraception check at VenusMed, not only your personal wishes, but also factors such as your individual compatibility, the safety of the contraceptive method, any previous illnesses and previous experience, your family planning wishes and any existing mental or physical issues are included in the decision of finding the best option for you.

This way, we can work with you to find the contraception method that suits you best.

What methods of contraception are there?2020-09-16T09:32:21+00:00

There are numerous methods of contraception available today. For women there are contraceptives with hormones (such as the pill, the hormonal IUD, the contraceptive implant or the morning-after pill for emergency contraception), as well as hormone-free ones (such as the copper IUD, the frameless copper IUD or the intrauterine ball). For men who have already completed their family planning, we also offer the option of a vasectomy (sterilisation).

We offer a huge range of contraceptives and are happy to help you find the most suitable method for you.

Which contraceptives are covered by health insurance?2020-09-16T09:31:26+00:00

What method of contraception after 40?2020-09-16T09:30:34+00:00

Many women from the age of 40 still have 10-15 fertile years ahead of them, but no longer want to have children. Moreover, as your body begins to change in this phase of life, you should reconsider your method of contraception.

You should consider, that hormonal preparations with the active ingredient estrogen (such as many types of the pill) are considered very safe in their contraceptive effect, but do have side effects. They for example increase the risk of venous thrombosis, which already gets higher with age. Smoking or being overweight can also contribute to this risk. Therefore, the more of these factors accumulate, women over the age of 40 are often advised not to use estrogen-based contraception.

With our contraception check, we at VenusMed will be happy to give you detailed advice on alternatives for risk-free contraception from the age of 40. We for example offer the copper IUD, the frameless copper IUD and the intrauterine ball, all of which do not use any hormones. However, the hormonal IUD (such as Mirena) can also be suitable for women over 40. It does not contain estrogen and instead uses progestin.
